New project SCG – Kraft
In September 2020 we completed and commissioned an Elgressy EST system for the cooling towers of SCG Kraft in Kabinburi, Thailand. The system has been performing very well since start-up.
The result: 78% less blowdown
| Blowdown (drain) | |
|---|---|
| Before, with chemical treatment | about 45 m³/day |
| After, with EST | about 10 m³/day |
| Water saved | about 35 m³/day, or roughly 12,700 m³ a year in continuous operation |
Because EST removes calcium hardness from the water as solid scale, the cooling tower can run at higher cycles of concentration. Less water has to be drained to keep scale under control, so make-up water and discharge both fall, and no treatment chemicals are needed.
How EST works: Elgressy EST treats a side stream of the cooling water by controlled electrolysis. Calcium hardness precipitates as solid scale inside the EST reactors and is removed, instead of depositing on chiller condensers, heat exchangers and pipes. Oxidizing species formed at the anode help control algae and biofilm, so no anti-scalants or corrosion inhibitors are needed. Read more about Elgressy EST.
