Approach temp. 1 year after installed sytem
The chiller approach temperature is the best day-to-day indicator of how clean your condenser tubes are. This table compares the monthly approach temperatures of a Bangkok chiller plant before and after installing Elgressy EST.
Approach temperature, 2013 vs 2014 (°C)
| Month | CH-1 2013 | CH-1 2014 | CH-4 2013 | CH-4 2014 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May | 2.8 | 1.7 | 1.7 | 0.8 |
| June | 2.3 | 1.5 | 1.5 | 0.8 |
| July | 2.3 | 1.6 | 1.8 | 0.9 |
| August | 2.7 | 1.1 | 1.8 | 1.0 |
| September | 2.8 | 1.6 | 1.4 | 1.2 |
| October | 2.8 | 1.6 | 1.6 | 1.3 |
On chiller 1 the approach fell from 2.3 to 2.8 °C in mid-2013 to 1.1 to 1.7 °C in the same months of 2014. Chiller 4 improved in the same way. A lower approach means cleaner tubes, better heat transfer and lower compressor energy.

How EST works: Elgressy EST treats a side stream of the cooling water by controlled electrolysis. Calcium hardness precipitates as solid scale inside the EST reactors and is removed, instead of depositing on chiller condensers, heat exchangers and pipes. Oxidizing species formed at the anode help control algae and biofilm, so no anti-scalants or corrosion inhibitors are needed. Read more about Elgressy EST.
