Energy Saving Cost after 1 year installed system
One year after installing Elgressy EST at the United Nations building in Bangkok, we compared the chiller plant’s energy use with the original design. Clean condenser tubes brought the approach temperature down and cut electricity use.
Before EST
| Chiller capacity | 900 TR (0.66 kW/TR) |
| Electrical load | 594 kW |
| Operation | 10 hours/day, 300 days/year |
| Design approach temperature | 2.2 °C (4 °F) |
| Energy use | 1,782,000 kWh/year |
| Energy cost at 5 Baht/kWh | 8,910,000 Baht/year |
One year after installing EST
| 3% saving | 5% saving | |
|---|---|---|
| Approach temperature | 1.1 to 1.6 °C | |
| Energy saved per year | 53,460 kWh | 89,100 kWh |
| Cost saved per year | 267,300 Baht | 445,500 Baht |
For a process running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the same improvement would save between 780,516 and 1,300,860 Baht a year.
Why does this happen? Every millimetre of scale on condenser tubes raises the approach temperature and forces the compressor to work harder. Learn how to prevent rising chiller approach temperature.
How EST works: Elgressy EST treats a side stream of the cooling water by controlled electrolysis. Calcium hardness precipitates as solid scale inside the EST reactors and is removed, instead of depositing on chiller condensers, heat exchangers and pipes. Oxidizing species formed at the anode help control algae and biofilm, so no anti-scalants or corrosion inhibitors are needed. Read more about Elgressy EST.
